SPEED OF THINKING = DECISION QUALITY

We tend to associate intelligence with thinking FASTER. In high-stakes environments, I’ve often found the opposite.

The faster the environment moves, the more VALUABLE the ability to SLOW YOUR MIND DOWN becomes.

Under pressure, the brain naturally shifts toward speed: rapid pattern recognition, emotional reactivity, familiar assumptions, immediate action. That can be useful in a TRUE EMERGENCY. But in business, investing, leadership, relationships, and other complex decisions, speed can become a LIABILITY.

The best decision-makers aren’t necessarily the fastest thinkers. They know WHEN TO THINK FAST AND WHEN TO THINK SLOW.

They can create enough psychological distance between stimulus and response to ask:

✔️ What am I missing?

✔️ Am I reacting or deciding?

✔️ Is this urgency real - or emotional?

✔️ What happens if I wait?

✔️ What information would change my mind?

That small space is WHERE JUDGMENT LIVES.

As AI makes information, analysis, and execution increasingly instantaneous, human advantage may actually move in the opposite direction.

In the new world, the premium won’t be on thinking faster than the machine. It will be on knowing WHEN NOT TO.

THAT’S PSYCHOLOGICAL CAPACITY. AND INCREASINGLY, IT IS A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE.
